Monthly Favorites October 2014

"I'm so glad to live in a world where there are Octobers" - L.M Montgomery

October is like that friend where you wish you could just see so much more of them, but they're always jetting off on another adventure, probably climbing Yosemite for the weekend and then back in New York City on a Sunday doing a drunk brunch with a minimum of their five fabulous friends....Well October, I too have had some fun adventures starting with:

  1. Went to DC in the beginning of the month
  2. Had a business conference at the White House
  3. Got a free bus ride on my way back from DC (had to argue my way through that one)
  4. And of course plenty of more spontaneous moments (Like I am so behind catching up on my Netflix series)
Now on the rare days where I was able to sit still I enjoyed some new items throughout the month of October, so here is a list of my monthly favorites

Starting with books
  • Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn: I know who hasn't heard/read this book yet. Well without giving anything away, I will say this, I was pleasantly surprise on how much I enjoyed this book, since I definitely thought this book should be categorized under "Basic Girl's Reading List" before I read it, I have done a complete 180 on how I feel about this book. I especially enjoyed the section on being a "cool" girl, oh man, what woman (or man) hasn't had that complex?
  • Not That Kind of Girl - Lena Dunham: If you like the HBO show Girls then yes, this book is for you. A fast read, with funny commentaries on Lena's life and her sexapades, I found this book refreshing and comforting to know that we've all had those moments or somewhat...Favorite line from the book, "My bed was a rest stop for the lonely; and I was the spinster innkeeper."
  •  Wild - Cheryl Strayed: A memoir on Cheryl's journey on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Her writing is vivid, which left me heartbroken yet appreciative to have read something on such a profounding person.
  • Shawl from Madewell - I just love wrapping myself in this shawl, it's cozy and adds a nice touch to my outfits
  • Youthberry White Tea  Teavana - Description of the tea from their website - red currants, acai berry, hibiscus and rose petals. Candied pineapple and mango pieces mingle with Fuji and golden delicious apples  in this sweetly timeless elixir. This tea is definitely fruity and totally did the whole sip tea while reading a book kinda scene.
  • Tea Infuser - Unfortunately this item is out of stock from Crate and Barrel, but I really enjoyed this simple easy to use infuser. Just scoop in the amount of loose tea leaves you want for your cup and then let it seep into hot water. It's easy and you don't have to worry about swallowing the loose tea leaves.

  • Origins GinZing Refreshing Face Mask  - With so much running around this month, this Origins face mask definitely came in handy to help hydrate my skin. Unlike sheet masks, Origins face mask is like an invisible shield that allows you to continue on with your hectic schedule without having to worry about scaring people. But in reality,  it was nice applying it on while being cozy under my new shawl and sipping my Youthberry Tea and reading a good book.

That's all for my monthly favorites! Goodbye October, come back soon!
